Along the byways of America, indefinite detention strategies reminiscent of NDAA are already popping up as a way of silencing dissident voices. Down in Alabama, deep in the heart of Dixie, freedom of speech--- and the right to be free from prison for exercising that fundamental right in our Constitution-- is facing a full frontal assault. Todays guest on the Covert Report is Carol Tovich Shuler, whose husband Roger Shuler is a powerhouse blogger most famous for exposing corruption in local politics. Hes writings cover Karl Roves efforts to remake the South into a Republican fortress, and the extensive corruption employed to destroy Alabamas former Democratic Gov. Don Siegelman. Shuler was beaten and arrested by Birmingham police after a traffic violation. Hes been in custody ever since on a contempt of court charge, facing indefinite detention, because the Judge has ruled that he will not stop blogging about corruption, and he refuses to remove blog posts exposing Alabamas corruption. Carol Shuler will be joining us LIVE from 11 AM to 1PM EASTERN TIME. This is an important show in defense of a blog journalist fighting an important local cause. It shows how NDAA will really go down to kill off our freedom, and the precedents for indefinite detention, which most of us have not considered. And we should.
