Alot of residents in barbour county are beginning to get their new addresses in the mail which i havent got mine yet but anyways here is the latest info u need to know on that for those of u that are beginning to get ur new addresses in the mail!! In the coming weeks, Barbour County and the United States Service will begin implementing E-911 addresses. It is important to note that all residence with established home mail delivery will receive a letter in the mail. Upon receiving this letter, you may immediately begin using your new address, do not use your old route and box number. It is important that you start notifying all business and personal correspondents of your new address. The postal service will continue to deliver mail with your old address for one year. After that time, all mail with the old address will be returned to the sender. Citizens who are currently do not receive home mail delivery will need to obtain their new 911 physical address through the Barbour County Mapping Coordinator. A schedule of times, dates, and places will be announced in the days to come so these citizens may meet with mapping coordinator. It is extremely important once you have your new address to properly mark your mailbox and home for identification. Your new house number must be shown on both sides of your mailbox and per the Barbour County 911 Addressing Mapping Ordinance your home must be marked as follows: Sec. 5.3 Numbers shall be at least four inches in height, and of a durable and clearly visible material. Where the structure is within 50 feet of the edge of the road right-of-way and can be clearly seen from the road, the numbers shall be placed on, above, or at the side of the main entrance so the number is clearly visible from the public right-of-way. Whenever a residence entrance is greater than 50 feet from a public right of way, or not clearly visible from the public right-of-way, the assigned number should be displayed on the structure as above and shall be displayed on a post, fence, wall, mailbox or on some structure at the property line adjacent to the end of a walk, driveway, access drive or property entrance to the numbered structure. Any posted number at the road shall be placed high enough to not be obscured by snow during an average winter. Address numbers are to be a contrasting color to the background on which they are mounted. It is important that all people do their part in making this transition as smooth as possible in order to uniformly assign and maintain street addresses and provide for easy identification of those numbers for various purposes and to promote the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Barbour County.
