Alright, Ive been tagged twice, by Katie Pastor and Elizabeth Hamilton, so Ill give this one a shot: Heres the idea: in your status list 10 books that have stayed with you in some way. Do not take more than a few minutes and dont think too hard. They do not have to be the right books or great works of literature, just ones that have affected you in some way. Tag 10 friends and me so I can see your list. Just as a side note, Im listing these in roughly chronological order. Im also going to try to explain how they have impacted me. Im not tagging anyone, but feel free to do it anyway! 1. The Harry Potter series - Yes, Im counting this as one book, and theres nothing you can do about it. My mom and I read nearly the entire series out loud to each other. 2. Julie of the Wolves - gave me an absolute fascination with Inuit culture. 3. The Cleric Quintet - the first book I read that was over 1,000 pages 4. Atlas Shrugged - It might sound silly, but Ayn Rand was the start to my love of philosophy. Yes, its simplistic, but its pretty eye-opening for a fifth-grader. 5. Nicomachean Ethics - the first book I read for college... After the first few pages, I was convinced I was going to fail. 6. Crime and Punishment - This book made me aware of just how important a liberal education is. In order to really get the nuances, one has to understand not only literature, but also history, philosophy, and psychology. 7. Consciousness Explained - I may not agree with absolutely everything Dennett has to say, but his writing definitely shook some of my most foundational beliefs. 8. Critique of pure reason - I adore Kant. He thinks outside the box, and its refreshing. 9. Personal Knowledge - I dont agree with a lot of what Polanyi has to say, but he did give me some peace of mind by showing me that its alright to believe what you cant know with certainty. 10. Primera memoria - one of the first books that I felt truly confident reading in Spanish
