Alright. Lets do some geek talk for a minute. [NO SPOILERS] I caught X-Men: Days of Future Past last night. I usually have my doubts about time travel movies because you know, theyre usually full of plot holes, and theyre confusing and stuff, but DOFP actually flowed pretty well. Dont bother thinking too much about the X-Men timeline because it is already screwed up as it is. Unlike Marvel Studios who planned The Avengers shared universe phase by phase, Fox probably never intended for this from the beginning. That said, the idea to use the DOFP story arc from the comics as a plot device to link the original X-Men trilogy with the First Class series turned out to be genius. If anybody was worried about there being too many characters, fret not, every character gets the screen time they respectively deserve. Favourites from the past reappear (Ellen Pages Kitty Pryde!!), and there are a few nice cameos too. Felt like a homecoming. But essentially being a First Class sequel, this is James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrences show. The powers and abilities were very well portrayed, I mean, why do we fans go and watch these films in the first place? We want to see what kind of magic Hollywood can do by taking these characters out from the comic book pages and into motion on the big screen right? Quicksilver actually steals the show in this one. Remember how Nightcrawler made you feel when he attacked the White House in X2? Quicksilver takes this up a notch. Fassbenders Magneto also gets a lot of justice. There are references and easter eggs for the followers as well, but perhaps not as much as The Winter Soldier. I was kinda disappointed Stan Lee didnt cameo in this one. Does he now only do it for Marvel? Anyway, I think Bryan Singer does a really good job on this one. It really does seem like he understands the mutants very well and its great that hes going to direct X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) too. As a whole, of course, it wasnt a perfect movie. When it comes to X-Men films, its always same old same old with the why cant we all just get along and unite or fall themes. Still, I really enjoyed it. Nuff said.
