Alright Nerd Lair, here we go with another of Marcs interesting character builds: This time, the 5th edition assassin at level 6 STR 11 HP: 45 AC: 14 INI: +8 Prof +3 Sneak ATK: 3d6 DEX 16 Skills of note: Stealth +9, Persuasion + 8, Deception +8 CON 12 Perception + 6, Acrobatics + 6, Sleight of Hand + 6 INT 14 Investigation + 5, Thieves tools, Card Games kit, WIS 10 Poisoners kit, Disguise Kit CHA 14 Feats: Crossbow Expert (fire off hand crossbow as a bonus action), Alert +1 ranged light crossbow (range 160/320) +7 atk with 1d8+4 minimum 2 hand crossbows (range 60/120) +6 atk with 1d6+3 minimum 2 scimitars, + 6 attack with 1d6+3 and 1d6 since you would be dual wielding Assassin special: Assassins who attack an enemy who has yet to make an action in combat automatically get a Advantage (sneak attack damage) enemies who are not aware of the Assassin when this happens grant the assassin an automatic critical hit (6d6 versus the normal 3d6) Alchemical bolts- take the standard items (alchemical fire, silver, and acid) using the poisoners kit and put the vial inside the bolt (this takes time, cannot be done in battle) and the bolt breaks, but doing the items damage as well (except for silver since silver is applied to the actual bolt head) So a long distance snipe from the ranged light crossbow is- 2d8+2d6(acid or fire) + 6d6 + 4, and with a high sneak, you could potentially set up for another 1d8 + 2d6+ 3d6 +4 your next round. With the hand crossbows, all you need to get your sneak attack damage is an ally being within 5 feet of your target, and since constitution of 12 is not front line... you could set up a 1d6+ 1d6(alchemical) + 3d6 + 3 with your first bolt and your second is 1d6+ 1d6(alchemical) + 3. Do note that Sneak Attack can only happen once a turn, as RAW and RAI. Oh, Assassins get uncanny dodge(reaction- take half damage from a single attack that you are aware of, + Alert (which states that you cannot be surprised) means that you should, in theory, be able to at the very least reduce a majority of the damage coming your way)) The reason I will be playing this Assassin- party has a cleric of life, wizard, sorcerer, eldritch knight, barbarian, 3 rangers, and a thief/bard. Another rogue with specialization in high damage output is never a bad thing. So, nerd lair, thoughts? Suggestions for builds either 3.0, 3.5, pathfinders, or 5th edition?
