Alright bros. Ive spent most of my trip writing the main arc for my DC Adventures campaign and I have the main idea down. Im just fleshing out some of the mini arc and character placements, but it is essentially ready to go. As I was writing the campaign I decided that this campaign would only be open to 5 players. The one shots Ive been running have been larger, but the scale of this campaign plus the archetypal structure of comics lend this campaign to be one that needs a 5 hero team. Therefore I reflected a lot on the one shots that weve played and I have picked the 5 people I believe are the most suitable for this campaign. It is a combination of comic book knowledge and role playing ability. The first five in (the ones I selected) are: Alex Nedved Jaimie Embrey Parker Friedrichsen Ryan Jackson and Ian Nedved. If any of you dont want to/cant play in my campaign the next person in would be Nate Lenz, then John Mahlberg, then James Hick. As for my campaign rules. I have made some of my own in house rules to combat the issue of trying to break the system. This campaign is more about exploration and narrative rather than combat. Building characters that aid in creating a complex and enjoyable narrative is instrumental to that effect. As such, these are my rules: 1. Characters (Start at Power Level 10) 1a. Normal humans may not have any ability stat above 7. 1b.Superhumans may not have any ability stat above 12. (You arent going to be world bringers. If you were, Naturally your character would already have been enlisted in the Justice League) 1c. In order to make yourselves better, youll have to spend points on skills, powers, gadgets, etc. 2. Skills 2a. No total skill rank can exceed 2x power level. 2b. This restriction also includes Close Combat and Ranged Combat skills (your To Hit bonus) 2c. Temporary bonuses to your To Hit modifiers such as Precise Attack and Accurate Attack CAN be used to bump your modifier over 2x your power level. 3. Damage/Offensive effect ranks 3a. Damage/offensive effect ranks for a given attack cannot exceed 1.5x power level. 3b. Temporary bonuses to your damage/offensive effect ranks such as Power Attack and All Out Attack CAN be used to bump your modifier over 1.5x your power level. 4. Players must speak with me about attacks that use affliction as an offensive effect before they can use it. I want to make sure that affliction attacks arent being abused/improperly used. *That said, any character created from the Random Character Generator that has an affliction attack need not consult me for permission to use said affliction attack. 5. All players will sit down with me and explain why each choice was made for their character. I.e. why a character uses said weapon or has a 10 strength. This is to help me and the player understand how their character functions. 6. All players will create back stories for their characters. A characters back story needs to be at least 1 to 1.5 single space pages in length. Players need to describe their characters physical appearance, current age, city of origin (may use real city, city in DC Universe, or create your own!), any team affiliations (Not Justice League), and an origin story that in part details why your character became a hero. 7. Ranks in certain advantage/power categories will be limited to preserve game balance. 8. Create worthwhile characters. Make complex characters that you care about and that your teammates will care about. You dont need to try and make overpowered characters. Thats not the point of this campaign, and making OP characters makes the game less fun for everyone else. Think quality over quantity. Sometimes having characters that are limited makes for the most compelling stories. 9. Have fun with it. Take off your D&D caps and start thinking like a superhero!
