Alright, so this video of Russell Brand has been going around, in which he plays one of those acts where one claims that they arent very knowledgeable about a subject (very, VERY true in this case), and then proceed to ramble on about the lofty, unrealistic ideas they have; but when someone challenges them on anything, they retreat to the Im not an expert on the subject bullshit. Heres the video ---youtube/watch?v=3YR4CseY9pk--- I cant believe people are taking him seriously. Look, Im a very liberal, progressive guy, but to not only discount the power of voting, of representative democracy, but to also offer NO real alternative for effective change—other than broad, vague liberal populist language—makes him look like a complete simpleton. You either have SOME form of democratic change, or you have a violent revolution. There is no magical alternative in which we overthrow the capitalist system, take down the governments of the world, and institute a society of peace and love. Real change takes time; it takes hard work; and it takes serious thinking, beyond bumper sticker catch phrases; none of which emanate at all from Mr. Brand. There is nothing groundbreaking or revolutionary about what he said. Its the kind of talk that one would hear among a group of stoners late at night while they partook in their favorite drug.
