Alright so travel nursing. I get lots of questions about what its like. So heres a little pro and con list. Jessica Beard Mateen Hester NeSmith Vanna McKee Tonya H Myrick Jennifer Caulder Christine Cricket Rochester Steven Sarah Willms Whitney Livingston Carissa Grizzard Whaley Amy Rawlings Pro 1. More money if you count getting paid for living expenses 2. Travel the us, usually paid for by travel agency 3. A feeling of indepenence living on your own with no restrictions on what you do with your time. 4. Overtime is optional and pays well, just keep in mind its going to be taxed so those big numbers you see pop up, are not going to be as big on your take home pay. 5. If you get a bad assignment, dont worry. You almost always go to a new unit each day. Cons 1. Maintaining health insurance can be pricey, not all agencies offer it and its only effective while on assignment. 2. Being away from home can be lonely, lack of people to call up and go out with. Exploring a new area isnt as enjoyable without company. 3. Buying all that simple crap like a skillet and bed sheets for the new place you will be staying at for x number of weeks. Assignments run anywhere from 4 to 26 weeks. 4. If your out sick there is no paid time off or sick time. In fact you can be charged, depending on contract for any less than 36 hours worked weekly. Some offer make up days per the facility discretion. 5. Learning new chařting systems, policies, and acquiring the state license endorsement is both costly and tedious. Not to mention the compentency tests/skill check offs required by both the agency and place you apply to work for.
