If, (and by that I mean probably) the united states does decide to launch cruise missile strikes against the Assad regime, that does NOT mean this is the start of some kind of "world war 3." All this talk about the Russians and Chinese coming in would be taken quite seriously if it were 1986 but its not. Those two countries might try to prevent legal action against the regime, or condemn American action, or even go so far as to sell them arms, but they have no reason, (and, more importantly, no ability) to actually challenge American forces in the Middle East even if they wanted to. Bombing Syria is a terrible idea but its probably a bit premature to start digging your fallout shelters.
