Alrighty....update time. Aidan had his FEES test this morning. Its a test where they put a tiny scope with a camera and light down into his airway to see what hes physically doing with his secretions. He is attempting to swallow, but unfortunately his swallow is very very weak. It is so weak that he is aspirating his own secretions (they watched on video as his secretions went into his airway). He isnt able to swallow food or liquids at all. So, hes getting a G-tube, which is a tube that is surgically placed in the tummy, and goes straight into the stomach so that nutrition can be put directly into his stomach. Hell be working with Speech therapy over the next 6months-1 year to learn how to suck a passy, process foods, and hopefully swallow again someday. He also will be going home with a sleep apnea monitor that will tell me if his heart rate rises or falls, or if he stops breathing in the middle of the night. He will being going home with a suction machine as well, so that I can suction his secretions every couple of hours out of his mouth to minimize the amount of secretions that go into his lungs. Thank you for all the prayers. It will definitely be an adjustment, but it is something I am absolutely happy to learn because Im just glad hes still here with me!
