Although Dr. Andrews is one of the preeminient figures in Sports - TopicsExpress

Although Dr. Andrews is one of the preeminient figures in Sports Medicine today, I would argue a couple of additional points. The term Professionalism refers to young athletes putting in the same effort as professionals. The difference in my opinion is that the young athlete does not spend any time cultivating their recovery. Every Professional and Olympic athlete spends around 15-20% of their total effort output on recovery, active recovery, etc. This means if the athlete trains for 4-6 hours per day, they will then spend around an hour on their recovery. This can include foam rolling, Massage Therapy, Acupuncture, Chiropractic, contrast baths, and yoga to name a few. This allows them to get back on the field in a shorter time and push themselves with less chance of injury. Young athletes dont have the time, nor do they understand the importance of this reset. The other point to make is that only a fraction of a percent of athletes can make it to the Professional or Olympic level. This statistic not only takes into account the skill level of the athlete but also the ones who have the ability, but have to withdraw from their sport due to nagging chronic or traumatic career ending injuries. Professional and Olympic Athletes are experts in their own bodies and can rebound from injuries with greater efficiency. The most encouraging piece of information that I gleaned from this article is that Sports Medicine is finally catching on to the new model. Rather than be RE-active and treat injuries, I would much rather be PRO-active and prevent them in the first place. Get your athletes body RESET on an annual basis to improve their resiliency. This happens to be the best segue into our next venture. GET-RESET.NET will be going live this month. Look for our upcoming website launch, Facebook page, and Twitter feed. Im fully expecting this to completely shift the paradigm. cleveland/dman/index.ssf/2013/02/noted_surgeon_dr_james_andrews.html
