What leadership experiences have you had prior to NC State? Since youve been at NC State? I was the official historian for my high school Latin Club which means I took photos at the meetings and shared them online. These pictures brought smiles to the faces of the club members and helped them to remember what happened at the last meeting. I consider myself to have been a leader in photography in my local community last year for winning an honorable mention in a photography contest with the theme of windows. I took a photo of clouds in many different windows from a perspective that is often overlooked. As a result of partaking in this contest, my photography has gained more exposure throughout the community and more praise. The praise that I got I saw as encouragement and motivation to make my pictures even more appealing and become a leader in innovative photography. The act of participating in something special alone makes me feel satisfied and boosts my self-confidence. I also was a teacher assistant at Temple Beth Shalom from 2008-2011. My favorite experience from being a teacher assistant was helping two students who each had an upcoming Bar and Bat Mitzvah. I assisted them in reading the prayers and chanting their right melodies. Within a few weeks, the pupils became fluent and also more familiar with the service. Helping these students positively impacted my local community because these students greatly appreciated my help and soon afterwards, they did well at their Bar or Bat Mitzvah. The people that attended the ceremonies, including family members as well as other members of the congregation, were delighted by how these students performed at this important milestone in the Jewish life cycle. If I had not volunteered to help the students, they probably would not have done as well at their Bar/Bat Mitzvah and their teachers and family members would not have been as impressed with their efforts. By partaking in this experience, it gave me the motivation to help out in future service endeavors. So far since I’ve been at NC State, I have been a leader in ways different than one might think. I have taken the initiative to get involved. I have become a photographer for the Technician and have taken assignments that no one else wanted to volunteer for. Also, after I was on a photography assignment at the Service Raleigh food drive, I volunteered to help clean up the gym and return supplies to a room. Furthermore, after I did my interview assignment with an architect who works for the school, I kindly volunteered to help him make measurements in the field for one of his maps.
