Friends and friends of Charlie. I am writing this with a broken heart so you wont wonder what is wrong. It is personal but we are personal people. Sunday afternoon I was cleaning out the storage shed before it got cold. I found a box of frames and began looking through them. I found my cover photo photo of me and my brother Charlie. I was happy. I set it aside. I looked up to see Lisa standing there. I said Look what I found! You see, my brother invited me to go along with him and Brenda to Branson. We were to leave Friday. I told her I was going to show the pic to Charlie. Somehow I didnt catch on that it is a first for Lisa to show up alone on a Sunday afternoon. She said Lets go inside. She shut everything up and we went inside and her phone rang. She handed it to me. It was my niece Candy. She said there was a plane crash and my dad didnt make it. Her dad was my brother. Her sweet heart is broken and so is mine. Lisa found out and drove all the way so I wouldnt be alone. Im telling youall, my friends, so you wont wonder what happened. Here is one of the news articles: BOONVILLE, Mo. -- A pilot from Salina, Kansas died after his small plane crashed Sunday morning in central Missouri about 100 miles east of Kansas City. The crash happened around 9 a.m. near the Jessie Vertel Memorial Airport in Boonville. KMIZ reports the pilot, Charles Sojka, and three passengers were on the plane when it went down shortly after taking off from the airport. Tim Rogers of the Salina Airport Authority said Sojka was a flight instructor at Sojka Aviation. Rogers said the plane had left Salina earlier in the week and was on its way back from Boonville. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating at the scene. Peter Knutson, a spokesman for the NTSB, confirmed the Bellanca 17-30A Super Viking crashed on approach about a quarter-mile from the airport. Charlie, his wife Brenda and her kids had gone for Thanksgiving to her family and were about to return home. I understand from my niece who talked to Charlies stepson, Jake, next to him in the plane that something was wrong and they were circling to go back. The plane lost power. My brother kept the plane from nose diving, got them in a flat field missing power lines all around but did not make it to the airfield runway. He was alive when they crash landed. Brenda suffers a broken back, was in surgery most of Sunday and still in the hospital. Kate, step daughter, suffers a broken pelvis. Jake was banged up but is out of the hospital. These details are from Charlies heartbroken and in shock son Jess and daughter Candice who talked to Jake and the responders, then to me. The responders told Candice it was an amazing landing and a miracle. I know my brother did all he could do. We thank the Lord that Brenda, Kate and Jake are alive and will recover. Please pray for us all to heal emotionally and physically. I call upon the Lord God whose Word heals us and delivers us from all our distresses.
