Although my rescue name was Conan, which Dad has kept as my second name out of respect to the staff in SSPCA Drumoak who did not give up on me, I now respond to my new name of Bilbo; though Dad does also call me Bilbo Conan. Bilbo comes from my dad James McAbraham being a seriously nerdy Tolkien fan since reading the Hobbit when he was 8 years old; but hey, I am living in the Shire of East Lothian (or Haddingtonshire as it used to be known) and in the two weeks I have lived with Dad, I have proved his choice of name to be appropriate. Dad is the hobbit, but he says Bilbo suits me because I have a spirit of adventure, but also love my home comforts! I am really enjoying them! I love the comforts and being the focus of Dad’s life. I know he loves me! One of the kids in the neighbourhood ( and I am very popular with them, and everyone has made me welcome in my new neighbourhood) keeps confusing his “b”s and his “d”s - which means he keeps calling me Dildo, much to Dad’s embarrassment! On Thursday evening, given that Dad and I have been together for less than 2 weeks, and I can’t tell him what crap I have had to cope with before I was rescued, he trusted the bond we have built, and we went walkies with some of my new doggie friends and a human friend at the Lagoons in Musselburgh. Dad’s heart was in his mouth when he let me off the lead so I could have a good run. It was fabulous – free to run, but always checking were Dad was. I was there with Amanda (the wife of Paul, who drove Dad up to Aberdeenshire SSPCA to collect me) and with my greyhound girlfriend Abbie, her lurcher sisters Megan and Pippa and my Yorkie friends Snitch and Snatch. About 95% of the time, I responded to Dad’s calls, even when I was rolling in in a muddy ditch. I loved the boating lake! Dad was very proud of me, and just as Dad is cool with being my PA, and an unassuming person, we both know we are there for each other! Lots of cuddles and wet noses Bilbo Conan xxxx
