Although this appears to be more akin to financial whining by Univision, it is still rather telling that no direct contact with a Spanish news network has been made. Albeit, one could argue a partial third party deal, NBC Universals ownership of Telemundo (the second largest Spanish news network), is the GOPs way of connecting to the Latino demographic. Regardless, personal squabbles between GOP & Univision or financial bitterness on the part of Univision set aside, there is something to be said about a party completely dismissing the opportunity to reach 96% of Hispanic households. This key demographic did just vote 70% in favor of a Democratic candidate two election cycles in a row. However, the GOP may not even need to invest much in this key demographic as the Democratic party has done an outstanding job of repelling the Hispanic gains it has made in the last decade. Needless to say the way both parties chose to interact, engage, and/or ignore Hispanics will be a fun part of this upcoming election cycle. In my humble opinion, Hispanics will vote for whichever party manages to keep its foot out its own mouth the longest. Democrats can point to xenophobic and down right racist remarks and suggested policies made by the GOP. Meanwhile Republican can point to 2 million deportations and no legislative action on Immigration Reform on behalf of the Democrats. P.S. any candidates from either party my political insights to the Hispanic/Latino voting bloc are available at a modest fee.
