Although we dont see it, or we dont think its true, the reality is that much of the extremism in the world (even in what we see as the oppression of women) is caused in an attempt to protect women and children. For example, in the Islamic Middle East many regions that had been controlled by Western Nations who had plans to secularize the areas became more closed in an attempt to protect women from secularization. Women are the bearers of religion and tradition, without them society cant survive. The same thing happened in the East like in India, China and Japan.
