Although we get paid well, and dont really need gratuities, its nice when people recognize our efforts. A nice older couple from Texas gave me an envelope yesterday that contained 40 dollars (we pool gratuities, so we tell people to give to the person in question if they want to recognize someone especially). They said I (and Ira, for he cooked breakfast) had made their stay so very pleasant and memorable. And yes, we do pamper our guests to death and care for their every need. Do you need a reservation, let me make you one. Youd like to have a massage in your room? let me me call the SPA. Youd like to know how much the ice hotel in Sweden costs? Just a moment. Youre leaving tomorrow? Let me print out a map and show you the best way to the airport. and on it goes. But boy, do I love my job.
