Alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson was born November 1, 1926 in Badin, North Carolina. He was introduced to bebop while stationed at the Great Lakes bases in Chicago during a Navy stint in World War II. Hes played with numerous giants including: Milt Jackson, Thelonious Monk, Blue Mitchell, Horace Silver, Art Blakey, Clifford Brown and Philly Joe Jones.
