Am invited to speak on civil society as a panelist at a forum - TopicsExpress

Am invited to speak on civil society as a panelist at a forum organised by the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. I am declining because of past experiences. For example, after all that consultation, closed door meetings, forums, etc in 2008 and subsequent years, about the online media and the Internet, all we got were disappintment and the govt ignoring the feedback and doing what it will. We have seen new legislations which curb freedom of expression - the POA, amendments to the Films Act, the introduction of new Internet rules, and the upcoming changes to the Broadcasting Act this year. Together with the incessant attacks on civil society activists and online practitioners who are not pro-establishment. Pro-establishments type can churn out all kinds of rubbish, defame people, break the law, disregard the courts, and get away with it with impunity, and the state turns a blind eye. Anyway am tired of trying to give my views on such platforms like LKYSPP and IPS. They really do nothing beneficial. Ive declined all such invitations since. And I do feel much better. Time is better spent with those I love.
