Amateurs talk about tactics, but professionals study logistics. - Gen. Robert H. Barrow, USMC (Former Commandant of the Marine Corps) My two favorite Commandants were General Barrow and General Paul X. Kelley. General Barrow was call the Patrician Oak by members of Congress. Navy personnel serving with the Marines are authorized to wear some Marine Corps uniforms and General Barrow once remarked that these folks were, Ships in wolves clothing. Not known by many was the fact that General Barrow, a native Louisianan, played a mean blues guitar to accompany his Deep South songs. General P.X. Kelley followed General Barrow as Commandant. I first met General Kelley when he was the Director of the Marine Corps Development Center, Quantico. In some ways Kelley was the exact opposite of General Barrow in that he was a brash Irish Bostonian who, like General Barrow, does not suffer fools. But he is also one of those Hail fellow, well met people who fills up a room when he walks in. Awarded me my first Legion of Merit.
