Dear friends, Brought for you Very interesting piece of information put in Message 1 of 2 , Jan 28, 2003 written by Dr. Padmanabh Joshi ji in shankarjaikishan group on yahoo on the link given below. https://groups.yahoo/neo/groups/shankarjaikishan/conversations/topics/169 ********************************************** I am extremely happy that our members have started discussions on a number of issues that I have discussed in my notes. Please keep it up. Many of us dont know that our great Mukesh, due to his various ventures suffered from financial problems. Many of his friends used to help him as and when he wanted, but he would certainly return soon his problem was solved. The only person who never used to help anyone financially was our great Shankerji. Though when the SJ team used to go for a picnic or to a restaurant, it was always Shankerji who paid the bill, but nothing to any individual. Once Mukeshji was in a very critical financial situation, and he requested Shankerji. Shankerji was convinced about his problem and he agreed to help him solve his problem. At that time SJ were busy working for Film Begunah. So immediately Shankerji created a tune, Shailendraji was requested to write a song on the tune so that the song could be recorded and Mukesh s crisis settled. When Shankerji informed the producer of the film Mr Mahipatlal Shah about the recording of the song, he was very angry with Shankerji and started abusing him and told him why without a situation in the film he wanted to record a song? Shankerji tried to convince him that it was an excellent melody and he suggested that Jaikishanji would sing the song in the film. Mahipatlal Shah did not agree to his explanation, and Shankerji finally recorded the song while Mahipatlal Shah continued abusing Shankerji in the studio. Finally Mukeshji was paid and his financial crisis was resolved. This whole story is with me in Shankerjis voice on an audio cassette. There was one more issue about a counter melody. The Counter Melody is the music constantly played along with the main song in the background. This counter melody is created usually of Viloine, Chello, Accordian and very rarely with a Mendoline. This has been my most favourite subject and that is why I discussed it in detail with Mr Sebastian whose first song with SJ as their Music Arranger was Ai mere dil kanhi aur chal...(Daag).In that song he used accordian and created a memorable piece of counter melody which was after many years tried out by O P Nayyar in film Mere Sanam Ye hai reshmi zulfon...which was also done by Mr Sebastian. Mr Sebastian had very clearly mentioned to me that he worked as per the instructions of the Music Directors. I hpe that this would help our members understand the SJ style of working. Regards. Dr Padmanabh K. Joshi
