Amazing Saturday Let me set the stage. On Friday I bought some Carnations while at the grocery store,6 yellow and 6 red. Yellow Carnations were one of Shirley’s favorite flowers. I made a point of telling her they for her while admitting they were for me too. Yes, I talk to her often. Shortly before I went to bed did a Smudging ritual with Sage and Sweet Grass to chase away the negative Spirits that may be lurking in my home. The last dream I had before waking early Saturday morning was about Shirley. She was giving me a present. She was shooing away others, saying it was just for me. It was some Jeff Gordon stuff but as my dreams often go the present changed as I went through it. We were separating same handfuls of loose items that appeared to be food; seeds, beans and for some reason I thought of the candy white Good and Plenty. That set the stage for the rest of the day. While I was making a breakfast of French Toast and Bacon, I saw a Humming Bird at the feeder outside my kitchen window. It was one I had not seen for awhile. It was the one with most iridescent green body of the three that visit my yard. The French Toast was with fresh baked French bread and all the bacon fried up perfect for a change. Even when I got frustrated trying to find a store I had only been to once before, I laughed it off. At a bakery I bought some terrific Éclairs and saw a pie that intrigued me and bought a piece. It is called Chocolate Charlotte (chocolate sponge cake, chocolate mousse and a layer of milk chocolate shavings surrounded by lady fingers) Absolutely Fabulous. A late lunch threatened to put me sleep completely sated but I fought it off. I took a leaf sample of a tree I am trying to identify to the Va. Tech Tidewater Arboretum. I was totally surprised at all the flowers that were still in bloom. I found the tree but it was on the buffer edge of the property over run by vines and no identity plate. The sad part was I forgot my camera. Being late and a Sat. no one was around to ask. The flowers and trees were inundated with butterflies and birds. I’ve put off visiting this place for a very long time. I saw I missed an amazing oasis in the mist of a busy industrial park on one side and a busy highway on the other side. When I got home I was at the kitchen window in time to see the juvenal Hummingbird make repeated visits to the feeder. Whether it was the Carnations or the Smudging or a combination of to two, I had a rare day and night free of sad thoughts.
