Amazing dinner, Sigrid de Castella! Truman and I went with Aubrey and Pep to dinner at Sigrid and Tonys on Sunday night. This was not just a dinner! This was seven courses with seven wines to accompany each course. For instance, first we had a little amuse-bouche, which consisted of a large prawn, asparagus, and lemon dust. This was accompanied by a 2006 Graeme Millar Sparkling Cuvee Extra Brut. The first course of the dinner was comprised of scallop pea, pumpkin and prosciutto accompanied by 1999 Richmond Grove Water vale Riesling. The adventure continued through asian duck, orange, and daikon and jus accompanied by 2008 Sinapius Pinot Noir all the way to dessert: pears, gingerbread, mulled wine granita, mascarpone, sugared walnuts and edible flowers with 2001 Katnook Botrytis Chardonnay. As Sigrid performed her culinary magic, Tony educated us about the accompanying wine. What a delightful journey we had! I told them they should write books that help would-be chefs pair their dishes with just the perfect wine. What fun this was for us and what a meal! Totally amazing! Abundant thanks, Sigrid and Tony.
