Amazing documentary from 2012, definitely worth a watch. It highlights issues around hunger and poverty in the US. This isnt about starvation in a place like Sub-Saharan Africa. It is about the wealthiest nation in the world having the lowest level of food insecurity in the developed world. Food insecurity is when you dont know where your next meal is coming from. Shocking, when in many cases these families have at least one person working - and yet they still dont have enough money to eat. We often think of obesity as being a symptom of having too much food. But it is becoming clearer that on a hugely limited budget, mothers have no option (and often no education) to choose anything other than cheap, processed foods which are calorie dense in order to make sure their families survive. This is a huge issue in the UK as well, reflected by the proliferation of food banks and other kinds of charities that provide food to vulnerable people. They do an amazing job but it shocks me that they even have to exist. They struggle to provide healthy nutritious foods to those that need them the most and instead often rely on cheap, processed foods. Is good health becoming a privilege for only those that can afford it? https://youtube/watch?v=49hgO6wJiw8
