Amazing how diverse the crowds are in most of the footage I have - TopicsExpress

Amazing how diverse the crowds are in most of the footage I have seen of protests, yet the narrative seems to be very much about black people being outraged about white killer cops. Again. A good part of the reason for the outrage is racism. But the activism will not be effective if our response is based on race as well. I am just jaded enough to wonder if there is a causal relationship. Are those benefiting most from the way the system is afraid that they may have to lose some of their power or work harder to do their jobs? Police like Doctors, Politicians, Journalists and Lawyers play important roles in this society. When they are hands on, communicate with those they are called to help and engage in that process with respect they grow as much as the people they help. When they act as though respect comes with the title they put themselves in a position to enrich themselves, but respect and growth become things they fear. To focus on the central example, when an Officer knows and feels a part of the community they serve, they are respected. They know who the bad guys are. When they dont they approach every incident as a life or death situation because they believe it is. And the times they dont believe its life or death they feel they can keep people in line by engendering fear in them. Yes, many more victims of police brutality and murder are people of color. But as they say until all of us are free, none of us are free... I choose to believe more people know that to be true than those of who benefit from racism would have us believe.
