Amazing story! Louis Zamperini, a Depression-era kid that actually finished eighth in the 5000-meter distance event at the Berlin, 1936 Olympics. And in his final lap of 56 seconds was fast enough to catch the attention of Adolf Hitler, who had insisted on a personal meeting with Louis. Then in WW2 Louis Zamperini served as a Bombardier on a B-24 Liberator! After being shot down in the Pacific, Louis had survived 47 days, in a torn life raft from Sharks, as well as being fired upon by Japanese fighter planes! Then Louis had survived the remainder of the War in a Japanese POW prisoner camp that held him in captivity, while he was starved, severely beaten and mistreated until the end of the war in August 1945. RIP Louis! :)
