Amazing the #ECOWAS preliminary report on the midterm Senate elections in #Liberia did not mention a word about the arrest of the opposition candidate in President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf’s home province of Bomi County. Incumbent Senator, Lahai Lansanah of the opposition National Patriotic Party and his wife were arrested following clashes between his supporters and those of the ruling party. The ECOWAS preliminary conclusions include the following sentences: “The insignificant shortcomings did not prevent the free expression by the citizens of their right to vote. Therefore, the Mission considered that the Special Senatorial elections of 20th December, 2014, proceeded in the acceptable atmosphere of free, fair, credible and transparent. The Mission was satisfied with the peaceful atmosphere that prevailed during the polling operations and welcomed the absence of violence displayed by the voters and party agents”.
