Amazing women, Mary and Sharon. They have been fighting for this - TopicsExpress

Amazing women, Mary and Sharon. They have been fighting for this right for nearly a decade now. In a place where they - where we all - know the deck is stacked against them. They have been willing to stand up and become the public face, the poster child if you will, for the fight for the freedom to marry. I listen to people around me and, while there are a LOT of Oklahomans who support marriage equality, those who do not are so venomous they are frightening. And over what? Love. The right to love and be loved, and to have the right to openly declare that love in legal marriage, with all of the rights and respect that legal marriage provides. As a straight woman listening to the arguments against marriage equality, I am baffled. I dont understand what is so threatening to hetero couples. As a straight woman listening to the vitriolic flow of the sanctity of marriage set, I am appalled by the lack of reason. How can allowing two people who love, people who are willing to risk losing everything society holds dear, to marry in any way endanger the marriage or relationships of others? As a straight woman, a woman who has never had her right to relationships questioned or debated, I have to ask... could I fight so long, could I risk so much, for the right to legal love? I dont know. So I have all the respect in the world for these women, and for countless other couples fighting the same fight elsewhere in the United States. I stand with them, and I hope and pray that the law will finally reflect the courage that these couples have shown us and say that marriage is a right to ALL who love.
