Amendment 1 - Right To Farm; Many of you have called or emailed me with well thought out arguments on both sides. There are people for and against this amendment whom I greatly respect. Please remember that intelligent people can respectfully disagree. Dont let that drive a wedge between you and someone whom you might disagree with. We need to continue to work together on other issues in 2015. Below are 4 articles - 2 for and 2 against this amendment. Read, study and vote your conscious. Yote Yes on Right to Farm by Mindy Patterson Vote Yes on Right to Farm by Ed Martin Vote No on Right to Farm by Rick Vandeven Vote No on Right to Farm by John Ikerd Ballot language; Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to ensure that the right of Missouri citizens to engage in agricultural production and ranching practices shall not be infringed? Yes - Amendment 5; The Missouri Constitution shall be amended to include a declaration that the right to keep and bear arms is a(n) unalienable right and that the state government is obligated to uphold that right. During the past 2 years hundreds of activists from the liberty movement, tea party groups and gun rights groups have worked on a variety of bills to strengthen our second amendment rights. This is the one that made it to the ballot. I will vote yes. No - Amendment 7; Increase the state sales tax to fund airports, walking trails, inner city light rail, city and county governments and state roads. Taxes should not be raised via constitutional amendments. If this passes, not only will this tax become a long term constitutional tax, but Missouri will become the 7th highest sales tax state in the USA. And Missouri will be constitutionally prohibited from raising the tax on fuel - no increase in costs to users. 52% of truck traffic on I-70 does not start or end in Missouri. Those trucks get a 10 year pass on paying any higher costs for the next 10 years. (my last message has more details on this tax increase) I am voting no. Want another opinion? read former St Joe city councilmans thoughts at link below; User Fees Better than Sales Tax for Roads by Mike Bozarth No - Amendment 8; Shall the state of Missouri sell lottery tickets to fund veterans programs? I dont think the state of Missouri should be in the lottery business. If the legislature believes our veterans programs need more money, then they should directly fund them. The legislature managed to find 100 million in tax credits for low income housing developments and historic housing preservation but they wont fully fund veterans programs? Shame on you legislators. I am voting no on Amendment 8 and next year I will join many of you in asking the Missouri legislators to do the right thing and adequately fund our veterans programs. Yes - Amendment 9; Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended so that the people shall be secure in their electronic communications and data from unreasonable searches and seizures as they are now likewise secure in their persons, homes, papers and effects. See my previous messages about this amendment and issue. In the light of NSA spying, 4th amendment abuses, civil asset forfeiture, I strongly support this amendment. Senator Rob Schaaf and Representative Paul Curtman are heading up the effort to pass Amendment 9. Please join me in thanking them for their efforts. I am voting yes on amendment 9.
