For Obama to mischaracterize the US as a nation of immigrants without making that distinction is to ignore the fact that as of 1960, 85% of Americans were White and non-Hispanic. It is that America which I can be proud of when I tell my Russian-born son about his fathers heritage. Not only are the vast majority of illegal immigrants poor and uneducated (unlike immigrants to Canada, who usually speak English and quite often hold professional degrees), theyre also hideous. If you think thats the kind of America we need, its your opinion, but realize that in 20-30 years, the country will be more demographically and economically similar to modern-day Brazil with its wretched favelas butting up against the luxury high rises of the countrys ethnically European minority, than the America I grew up in.
