"American doctors hesitate to recommend delaying cord clamping - TopicsExpress

"American doctors hesitate to recommend delaying cord clamping universally, Dr. Raju said, because there can be situations in which early clamping is required — if an infant requires resuscitation, for example, or aspirates meconium, or infant stool." This frustrates me :/ Early clamping is counterproductive to a newborn requiring resuscitation. Oxygen and volume from the placental blood are helping to resuscitate baby. In instances of meconium stained waters would it not be more productive to allow a very gradual transition from cord blood oxygenation to baby breathing on its own? That way baby does not need to gasp in and aspirate on meconium while scrambling to receive its first oxygenated breaths. Am I missing something here?
