American marketing style is to create a desire and exploit that desire as it catches on with little concern for or about anything else. The example being the near failure of the American auto industry. The other concept of marketing is to create a need and get input from the target market as to its desires and attempt to bring them to reality to the extent possible, evidenced by the success of the Asian and European Automobile industry.
