American rapper Rick Ross will join the glittering line-up at a mahala concert to celebrate IT- millionaire Robert Gumede’s 50th birthday on Saturday. Ross was named the “Hottest MC in the Game” by MTV last year. He likes to flirt with controversy, and made headlines for his public feud with rapper 50 Cent in 2009. Ross will join R&B star Keith Sweat to headline the concert at the Nelspruit Rugby Stadium, which can take up to 40 000 people. Gumede’s spokesperson, Lunice Johnston, of Vuma Reputation Management, made the announcement today. The show will also feature top South African artists including Khuli Chana, AKA, Zahara, Mafikizolo, Dr Malinga and Zakes Bantwini. Gumede and his “VVIP” guests will be hosted in a luxury private marquee at the event. “Everyone will have to bring their dancing shoes and must have the stamina to boogie all night long until 6am the next day,” he said. Gumede was one of seven siblings raised by his single mother, Keni, in Nelspruit. He started working at the local golf course when he was seven, and went on to found the technology empire Guma Group. He will celebrate his 50th birthday in Nelspruit over four days. Festivities will kick off tonight with a braai and a jazz tribute concert to Keni, featuring Judith Sepuma. The business tycoon said he preferred to party with “his people in Nelspruit, unlike many top businessmen who celebrate in glittering adopted cities or overseas in exotic islands”.
