Americans ‘dissatisfied’ with both parties b4in.org/sWi There is widespread disapproval of both major political parties in the United States, given the inability of Republicans and Democrats to meet the needs of the people, a political expert in Washington told Press TV. According to a recent Gallup poll, a majority of Americans say the country needs a third major party because the Democratic and Republican parties do such a poor job of representing the people. The survey showed that 60 percent of Americans express dissatisfaction with the way the nation is being governed by the two parties, the highest Gallup has measured in the 10-year history of this question. What we see in the United States now is a general dissatisfaction with both political parties which may for the first time in a long time actually precipitate a third political movement that wishes to separate itself from Washington business as usual,” Frederick A. Peterson said on Monday. However, Peterson acknowledged that third parties that have emerged to challenge the dominance of the Republican and Democratic parties have not been able to sustain any degree of electoral success. The long-term likelihood of success of a third alternative is yet to be seen, but I should rather think even if it is successful in the short-term, eventually the United States would gravitate back toward two political parties,” he noted. Given the inability of the Republican and Democratic parties to agree on the most basic of government functions, like passing an annual budget to pay for federal programs or compromising on how to avoid a default, it is not surprising that the percentage of Americans who believe a third party is needed has never been higher.
