Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) - also referred to as motor - TopicsExpress

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) - also referred to as motor neurone disease (MND) in the UK - is a neurodegenerative disease. It shuts down your bodys neural pathways until the person affected cannot move, eat, or breathe. You may have heard of Stephen Hawking, a legend in the field of astrophysics who suffers from ALS, and for decades has been bound to a wheelchair and needs to communicate using a speech synthesizer. Unfortunately, not everyone is as high profile as him, nor does the disease get a lot of attention in general. There is no known cure for it. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge aims to raise awareness and money for this cause. Heres the challenge: if somebody tags you, you need to drop a bucket of ice water on your head within 48 hours - or forfeit and donate $100* towards the ALS cause (*or local equivalent). After you do the challenge - if you do - you tag three more people to take the same challenge. I got tagged by Karmanya, so heres my #IceBucketChallenge video. That. Was. Cold! If you think this is gimmicky, consider this: within the same three work period compared to last year, the ALS Association received $13.3 million compared to $1.7 million. Thats a roughly 8x increase in money that goes towards research towards this nasty disease. If you would like to donate to the Motor Neurone Disease Association, heres my fundraising link: https://justgiving/Ankur-Banerjee (If youre in the UK, you can also donate by texting ICED98 to 70070 followed by an amount like £10) I tag Stephanie Stoll, Jeanette Tan, and Agrim Singh to take the challenge! :D
