Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) Lou Gehrigs Disease is a - TopicsExpress

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) Lou Gehrigs Disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Two of my close friends have gone through a parent passing from ALS within the last two years. After their parents were diagnosed, they passed a few short years later. The incidence is roughly 2 people per 100,000 per year. No obvious racial, ethnic or socioeconomic boundaries. While there is no cure, therapy improves ALS survival for typical patients by a short period of time, around four to six months. I encourage everyone to educate themselves, educate others, and also find a wonderful association to help either volunteer or donate to. I nominate my friends Le Teishia, Chanel Mabery, and Sara Elizabeth Smith, you have 24 hours to accept this challenge!
