An 8 year old boy stood by the car of his care giver very cautiously. He looked around without going to far from the car or the worker. After talking with him for a bit we decided to take a tour and feed the horses and work with the birds. Just as we were shutting the back barn doors up, God did his thing! The boy noticed Asher outside. Asher happened to not have school that day and came out to meet the new child for sessions. The 8 year old ran down to meet Asher greeting him with a bro handshake and talking away as if they were old friends. For those who dont know Asher, he is our 8 year old son. We all decided to take a walk down to the river. The boys ran ahead! Asher showed him skipping rocks, and they played with sticks and then went to Ashers fort in the woods. They played together as if they were long lost friends who had not seen each other in a while. As we headed back up to the car to say our goodbyes his worker gave Asher his number so he could call him. The young boy lives in a group home and no family ever comes to see him or calls. Even on holidays he is alone. So for him to feel apart of something really lite him up. Asher called him tonight and the excitement on the other end of the phone was breathtaking! He even asked to talk to me. How humbling. Asher shows us all that you dont have to be a certain age, or have any qualifications, you just need to be willing to be a friend, offer what you have, and CHOOSE to LOVE as a verb!
