An Action Opportunity! 2 days left! Do It NOW, if you can! The government (via the Office of Management and Budget, aka The OMB) has recently recalculated how much DAMAGE Carbon Pollution costs our society (Damage to our health, our air, our water . . . ) This figure will be used to formulate new EPA regulations on CO2 emissions from power plants. So, it is VERY IMPORTANT! However, the fossil fuel industry is lobbying hard to invalidate this calculation so that it can continue to belch out carbon pollution into the air with abandon and without paying for it. The government has requested COMMENTS from the public about whether or not it should keep this price on carbon pollution Only 2 days left to send in our comments! ---> Please do it NOW and get it done! Your email doesnt have to be technical. It can be something as simple as I support the governments new determination on the social cost of carbon. If you would like a little bit more BACKGROUND, though, you can visit: theenergycollective/nrdcswitchboard/311466/omb-issues-call-additional-public-comments-social-cost-carbon or climaterealityproject.org/climate-solutions/stand-up-and-count-the-social-cost-of-carbon/ It is MUCH more effective to send in YOUR OWN EMAIL. Signing a form is fine, but it doesnt carry half as much weight as does an individual email! Heres the EMAIL ADDRESS: [email protected] In the SUBJECT Line, put: OMB-2013-0007 Heres a copy of the letter I sent - just to give a sample. (Its short and to the point) Dear OMB, I support the governments new measurements for determining the Social Cost of Carbon. Carbon pollution has imposed tremendous costs on our health and our environment, and it is now disrupting the stability of our planets climate. These new calculations of the cost of carbon are essential to determining how we, as a society, can properly regulate (reduce) the damage that carbon pollution causes. And, scientists say that there is no time to waste in comprehensively and effectively reducing worldwide greenhouse gas emissions so that we can bring them back down to the safer level of 350 ppm. As the world-wide concentration is now close to, or over, 400 ppm, the U.S. must now be a leader in demonstrating that carbon levels can be efficiently reduced. While the fossil fuel industry focuses on the short-term profits it makes from pouring carbon pollution into our air and water, I support our government in focusing on the more important long-term priorities of both the country and the planet. Sincerely, Abhaya Thiele
