An Appeal From AMWA When the news of the tragedy involving the disappearance of MAS flight MH370 broke, it shocked the world and saddened Malaysians including those of us living in Perth. For Malaysians, the fact that it involved our national carrier brought the tragedy closer to home as a lot of us frequently fly MAS. For us here in Perth it is now even hitting closer as it now appears that the plane might have come down not too far from our shores. Perth has become the centre of the search and rescue operations. More importantly this also means that the families of the passengers and crew will be coming to Perth to await news of their loved ones. This is obviously a trying time for those family members, fearing the worst and yet not knowing for sure. This is further compounded by the fact that they have to undergo this ordeal in an unfamiliar city. To help ease their ordeal, AMWA is appealing for volunteers who can offer time and assistance to these family members. The kind of help we envisage is having an ordinary member of the public, as opposed to a government or MAS official, to talk to and ask questions about how things are done locally. It involved simple things such as taking them to the shops or helping them take public transport. In other words, just be available to offer a hand of kindness. At this juncture, we have very little details either from the Malaysian authorities or MAS as to what their plans are, but we intend to follow up with them. In the interim, we are seeking expressions of interest from those of us amongst the Malaysian community who are able and willing to offer their time to assist these family members, should they arrive. The reason we are seeking expressions of interest now is because once things are finalised, it will move very quickly and we need to be able to mobilise fast. We need to know before hand who is willing to help so that, as and when the need arises we can start contacting people immediately. If you are able to help in any way please let us know. You may send an email to [email protected] or contact: Raymond (+61409907188 | raymondcheong33@hotmail) Molly (+61411147254 | mollycheong@hotmail) Leonard (+61411745285 | perdana4985@gmail) Jordan (+61416017354 | [email protected]) AMWA hopes the Malaysian community in Perth will rally around the families of the passengers and crew, and offer their full support when the time comes.
