An Atlanta pharmacist, Dr. John S. Pemberton, created a soft drink in 1886. He came up with a flavored syrup and then added it to carbonated water; which was sold all around Atlanta for five cents per glass. His partner, Frank M. Robinson, is credited with creating the name “Coca-Cola”. Dr. Pemberton then sold portions of his business to Asa G. Candler as well as business men throughout Atlanta prior to his death, two years after creating The Coca-Coal Company (The Coca-Cola Company).
