An August to remember! This month has developed into quite a memorable one, full of lifetime firsts and deeply meaningful experiences. First of all, my son had his first birthday and birthday party. I cant say enough to express how profoundly he has changed my life. Hes such a wonderful little guy. And, hes really helped me to put things into perspective. I heard a sermon by Landon Jermain Adams this past weekend that did a good job of expressing how marriage and fatherhood have a wonderful way of deepening our perspective on Gods Providence. Secondly, I have been filming a movie. Ive been cast as the likeness of Cannonball Adderley in the Miles Davis biopic, Miles Ahead. Ill be appearing in 3 scenes. Don Cheadle is a serious dude. Very cool and approachable guy. Hes really an actors actor. He learned how to play the trumpet for the movie. Hes got a good ear, really knows the tradition, and is respectful and appreciative of everyone on the set. I forsee some future collaborations. (IMDb: Miles Ahead (imdb/rg/an_share/title/title/tt0790770/)) Thirdly, I received a contract from Hal Leonard for a jazz method book that me, Keith Newton, Steve Kortyka, and Kris Johnson have been writing for the last few years. The manuscript is due in March of 2015. Well keep you posted! Fourthly, Im starting graduate school at UC-CCM at the end of this month, in pursuance of a DMA. Fifthly, this month starts my 10th year at OSU as the professor of jazz saxophone. Its been wonderful and has facilitated many opportunities. I plan to have a 10 year jazz saxophone studio alumni gathering. This month has been seriously rewarding and the work continues. Im fortunate to have the opportunity to pursue what I love. Music has given me so much. God has blessed me and my family greatly. I hope to live up to His high expectations of me. Lord, have mercy. Help me to stay humble and malleable so that You can use me for Your purposes.
