An Ever-listening God Ezra 8:23 “So we fasted and prayed about these concerns. And [God] listened” Ezra 8:23 (MSG). Each time I read through the Bible, I discover repeating themes that run from Genesis through Revelation; and, not coincidentally, these themes are often the very things in my life that I’m most concerned with, the things that I most need to hear. Today’s verse reveals one of those vital themes: God listens. One of our most basic human needs is having someone who will listen to us, someone who’s willing to simply sit and listen to our concerns. We are all desperate to be heard. Some of us shout, some whisper, some cry, some write, some lash out in anger, some start a blog, some make posts on Facebook and Twitter—all in a desperate attempt to be heard. But Ezra 8:23 tells us that we don’t need to go to all that trouble, because there is One Who is always ready to listen, One Who is always eager to hear our cries, One Who is all ears when it comes to our worries, our fears, our cares, our pains, and our praises. There is One Who is always bending His ear to listen to the prayers of His children. The beautiful truth is this: We have an ever-listening God. ~Randy & Trena Reed
