An Important Piece of Advice to all final Year Students A year - TopicsExpress

An Important Piece of Advice to all final Year Students A year before, I remember, it was the most bewildering time of my life. A week before the first placement drive. I had so many questions that I used to forget what all to ask when went to get them clear. So when I see the 2015 batch now, I know what is going through them. As I have been there, done that. So I thought of passing on whatever lessons I learnt last year while going through the biggest festival if engineering life called Campus Placement. 1. Rumours: I still havent quite found out that who starts this chain reaction, but this has been a ritual that is followed every year. Dont listen to any of them, not even the T&P knows the exact dates. So wait for the official notice on the hostel board and be prepared that any company can come anytime, and some may never come. 2. Preparing CV CV/Resume is undoubtedly the only piece of paper that makes a difference. No one opens thatvhuge file containing all those certificates that you are banking upon(unless you grab the collar of the interviewer and ask him to open). Dos: 1. Never write anything on your CV that you are not comfortable with or just for the sake of showing that you have done that course or know that subject. Remember, every xyz point that you write on your CV is read by the interviewer as Ask me xyz. And if you dont answer that, then thats doesnt do you any good. So be careful what you want to be asked. So be yourself dont pretend. 2. You should be able to elaborate each achievement/hobby that you mention in the form of how it has defined you as a person/what lesson that you learned from it. As these are the questions that follow. 3. Dont worry about the format too much, they care about the content. 3. GD 1.Cooperate to dominate Everyone complains that GD is a fish market. Well thats a fact and it will be so. You have to grab your opportunity to make an impact in the grows. How? Start your point by appreciating the previous speakers point. This grabs attention, silences the crowd and makes you a team player. Use his point as a stepping stone to put forward your point. You can even counter in this manner. Eg: That is a very nice point that my friend made that reservation is against equality but we are missing an important aspect that the people under reservation scheme are already unequal, reservation is to make them equal with others! 2. Try to ensure that the GD is going in the right direction and always try to add new dimension to the topic. Dont unnecessarily debate, try to reach a consent. Take it as your responsibility to ensure that your groups GD is a productive one. 4. Final interview 1. About me: The most decisive question. The only question that you can prepare before hand and you can get in the drivers seat from here. How? Apart from praising yourself, mention one point/incident/interest that will force the interviewer to ask you question on it. Eg. I am xyz, I am an avid reader, I have read many books and Dan Brown is my favourite writer. I admire his vivid imagination. Apart from it, lately I have developed interest in android app development and published an app on play store that had crossed 10k downloads. The interviewer is bound to ask question on either Dan Brown or the android app you made. The ball is in your court now. Nail it. 2. Dont s : When asked about your strength, never just mention the name of the strength, like team work, hard work, sincere, innovative etc. Always try to indirectly portray these characteristics through a real life incident. Eg. While hosting xyz event I realised the importance of team work as I faces this challenge.etc 3. There are few expected questions you should be prepared with: What are you weaknesses? Why should we select you? Tell one incident that gave you a very important lesson in life. What do you know about our company? Why our company? I dont like your face. Why to choose you? Are you interested in MBA? 5. Written: Not much to tell in this. Practice makes a man perfect, so this is the place to be the man. Practise as much as you can, the questions are not very difficult. All you need is speed. Topics like speed time distance, work, ratio, Profit loss, reasoning (family hierarchy, series ) Hope this is of some help. All the best. May all of you get what you deserve.
