An Open Call (for help) (Currently Untitled Canvas Donation Project) An action of support. I am looking at support structures; the overarching thesis of this project is- Artists supporting artists. Im putting together a painting series where I will have other artists building me a canvas or paintable surface (i want it to be common to their practice, something they would build for themselves to use). Ill make paintings on the given canvas and the title of each painting will be the name of the artist who gave me the canvas. This is basically a project out of necessity because Im not able to build canvases anymore- too hard physically. I wanted to think about artists supporting artists, and the canvas/stretcher as a structural support for paint was a really great connection for me. The project will be an ongoing body of work, for at least the time while Im waiting for a double lung transplant and then the 6 months to a year post transplant during which my strength and physical abilities will still be very minimal. Basically, it will continue until I can make canvases for myself again. Please let me know if you would be able to, and/or like to donate a canvas to me for this project. This is a way for me to connect with the artists whom work I admire, draw strength from, and look to for intellectual, emotional, visual energy. Also, it will be literally, supporting my painting practice during a time when realistically it could very possibly come to an end (at least temporarily). It would be a deep and heartfelt honor to paint on your canvas. My initial impulse was to throw a Kickstarter online and take in money for materials and assistants to build the canvases, but I realized that is a very impersonal watered down notion of creative collaboration. I wanted something with more soul, more touch, the physicality of artists touching and breathing the same material, the same air. For these reasons, I am asking for a donation of 1 built canvas from your studio practice to mine. I define canvas very loosely, to be any structure with an intentionally paintable surface, of any size, color, shape, volume. Thank you for the time and for the support.
