An Open Letter to Pastor Bob Coy, former pastor of Calvary - TopicsExpress

An Open Letter to Pastor Bob Coy, former pastor of Calvary Chapel-Ft. Lauderdale, who resigned his position because of a moral failure: Dear Pastor Bob, We’ve met a few times but you don’t know me. Like the rest of the world, I was shocked to hear the news of your resignation following what the church described as a “moral failure”. I am both sad and disappointed. You should have known better. But you already know that. The more I think about your “moral failure”, I am reminded of the moral failure that I am. And it’s more than just the things I’ve done or left undone, my heart is so sinful and broken. I have a long track record as a failure. My inability to deal with my brokenness has affected my family and myself in ways that leave me feeling ashamed. It’s why I talk about grace all the time. Real, scandalous grace. Grace that reaches deep into the dark places of our lives. Grace that covers even the worst and most shameful things we’ve done. Grace that washes and renews. Grace that comes from God and grace that is most appreciated by failures like you and me. I pray that there will be friends and even strangers that will come alongside you in the next days, weeks and months to remind you of the scandalous love of God for people who have even willfully disobeyed and fallen into sin. I hope that these reminders of God’s love will lead you to repentance. Your “moral failure” was real and you will no doubt need time to experience restoration with your family and friends. Your restoration with God has nothing to do with you and what you have done or will do. He purchased your broken heart and took your name to the Cross. Trust in that, and be transformed by Him. No moral failure can ever change His love for you. Rest in that and let it comfort you as you rebuild your life. Jeff Taylor
