An Overdue Update on the India Trip. The magic still lives on. - TopicsExpress

An Overdue Update on the India Trip. The magic still lives on. I have had some fear that the great improvement in my residual injuries would somehow vanish as quickly as they improved but thankfully this has not happened. It is difficult (although not impossible) to look and feel confident when using a walking stick and balance is somehow not there. But the balance is back (almost) and life begins anew. I think we got to an evening In Ahmedabad with a group of young collectors/numismatists. On the Saturday Amit had arranged a meeting with CNG which was extremely pleasant and enlightening. I was a privilege to spend time with Mr Saravagi over lunch and for a number of hours with his expert staff discussing numismatics. The help gained is invaluable to our continued work. The kind words said and written about our first book will never be forgotten. Sunday was relaxing and spent in the afternoon and evening with Amit and his family. Great discussions were held. The dinner was absolutely superb and the friendship delightful. On Monday I flew to Mumbai. It was on that afternoon that some type of magic happened. My everlasting thanks to Dr Purohit for his unstinting kindness and generousity during my time of a new metamorphosis. I had never corresponded with this gentleman before but his care and consideration is exemplary. The arranged stay at the MIG CC gave me the haven I needed. In Mumbai there were two meetings of a formal nature. One with Dr Kalra which was in some trying circumstances for him due to external details which have now escalated but it is good to see a recent picture of him looking rather relaxed. The second was a major museum in which certain details will be disclosed at a later date. The were three absolutely wonderful meetings with Mumbai collectors and numismatists. Two in private homes where the welcome was overwhelming and one organised at the Willingdon Club. For me the discussions were invigorating and highly enlightening. I learned a vast amount of detail on specific subjects. At one meeting I saw the missing (from Shah Alam I book) rupee of Bankapur. The assumption that an error of type had been made by Tariqbhai and I when the coin sold based on our mapping of types (see book) was proved to be correct. I look forward to receiving a photograph of the coin and providing an update for the book to be posted on our blog. As indicated before the MIG CC was a peaceful haven. Given the apparent major improvement in my condition I made a decision to return home after a quick visit to Delhi. I apologise to those I had promised to visit in an extended stay especially to Abhay in Gwalior. It would be nice to receive some of the photographs taken at the meetings for my records. Anonymity assured. More to follow
