An amazing insight into one of the Names of Allah: Al-Jabbaar It is among the Beautiful Attributes of Allah which are known to us. It is often loosely translated to the Compeller or the Restorer. The root letters are jeem-baa-raa (jabr) and have 3 meaning: 1. To compel, to assert, to force or pressurize someone into doing something. To dictate or act tryrannical. (Quranic Example 19:32) 2. To be tall, great and strong. To have immense strength in a physical sense. (Quranic example 5:22) 3. To reform, fix and repair that which is broken. Completing the incomplete. (algebra=fixing equations) When Allah attributes jabr to Himself, He means: Positively (unlike the negative human form of jabr) forcing creation away from that which is forbidden and to follow His commands, that He is exalted and greater than all of His creation and they are below Him, and finally, the One Who reforms, fixes and heals, Who mends and fixes broken hearts, the One Who guides those that are lost and seek Him, the One Who gives health to the weak, Who fills gaps, Who reforms and re/unites, Who enables us and provides us with that which is required to achieve. So when you call on Allah tonight midst your difficulties and hardships, when you seek from Him to rid your life of deficiencies, call on Him as Al-Jabbar knowing He is the most capable of fixing that which is broken
