An apple a day... Do you have the best of intentions, but ultimately struggle to get the recommended five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables per day? Don’t worry because you are not alone. Very few people actually get anywhere near the recommended amount. Set your pursuit to eat more produce by gauging where you currently stand. Are you eating one serving per day or Is it more? After that, set a realistic goal, like increasing your intake by one or two servings of produce per day. Next, put your goal into motion by making it part of your daily routine. Once you reach your goal and maintain it for several weeks, consider setting a new goal, until eventually you achieve the recommended amounts per day for optimal health. Here are 10 tips to help you make it easier to include more fruits and veggies into your diet... 1. Wash and cut fresh vegetables after purchasing them. This makes it easier to grab-and-go during the week and reduce the risk they’ll be forgotten and go bad. 2. Store fresh, frozen, canned, and dried fruits and veggies in easy-to-see and reach places in your kitchen. 3. Get rid of the cookie jar. Instead, keep a bowl of washed ready-to-eat fruits on the table. 4. Craving dessert? Try having fruit with yogurt instead. 5. Include a veggie tray with dip for a healthy snack. 6. Make a habit of including a side salad with a mix of leafy greens with dinner. 7. Add veggies like spinach, tomatoes, peppers and avocado to sandwiches. 8. Add veggies to your pizza. 9. Make fruit smoothies for breakfast and snacks. 10. Incorporate at least one serving of veggies and/or fruits into all snacks and meals throughout the day.
