An appropriate poem for the cold winter night that is today.... ON A COLD WINTRY DAY Relationship of Love and hate is real for people of colder climates with old man winter Painting a contrast is best articulated by nature’s web of surprises and elements Contrasting a normal wintry day versus is extreme wintry day is what makes it special Stopping and thinking about life outside the four walls gives one shudders and chills Blizzards as snowstorms are affectionately termed are nature’s fury & sight to behold Howling winds whip up drifting snow and sends bone chilling sensations down spine In the Tundra and Alpine regions winter gear helps populace brave nature’s elements Out in nature one sees landscape familiar only in winter times, miles & miles of white Lessons on life would be easy if only we pay attention to nature and its balancing act Domination a personal relationship can only last so long; tables will be turned one day Vitality and growth highlighted in summer days and long daylight in summer solstice Roles reverse, bond between light and dark is dominated by darkness in winter solstice Painting a beautiful picture and scenario in mind were authors and poets of literature Effective effect this had on young minds such as mine in sparking a light to imagination Crackling of wood in the fireplace and holding a glass of Scotch in hand is what I read Reading a book in glowing light, looking outside into winter wonderland is what I saw A picture is worth thousand words is the message and Hollywood’s practiced mantra Snowfall witnessed in movies and it looked so wonderful, exhilarating and magical Dropped us in right midst of skiing in Alps and slopes of St. Moritz and riding cable cars Disconnect between thought and effect on body makes winter landscape enticing to all Foreigner that I am to northerners and missed out the experiences of cooler temperatures Cooler than 8 degrees Celsius or 48 degrees in Fahrenheit meant putting sweaters to use Designed to let air flow freely and let in light, tropical homes are not built to handle cold Forty-eight degrees outside meant 42 degrees inside of home causing one to shiver Thoughts cross mind and a smile is drawn across my face when I see fireplace glowing I chatted and laughed with family and friends around a fireplace on the Christmas night By the book and memory roasted marshmallows on a stick and chestnuts in the fireplace Joy it is to observe and appreciate surroundings; drawing pleasure of out of a given state Behind closed eyelids mind advises me I am living in the book and a Hollywood movie I rode cable cars to snow capped Alps of Europe and visited places that captivated me As I hold a glass of Scotch I intently look at the contents of the glass and color of drink I am reminded how fortunate I am to enjoy privileged the life holding dream in hands
