An argument that ensued in a bus yesterday between me and other - TopicsExpress

An argument that ensued in a bus yesterday between me and other passengers brings to bear the degree and realities of high parochialism in Nigeria polity. The cause of the argument was because I told them that I can not vote for someone who in my assessments has failed to ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians and who has been tapping corruption(the core factor of Nigeria underdevelopment)at the back claiming to be pushing it, even if the person is from my ethnic group but that I would rather vote for someone from another ethnic group. O boy! come and see how almost every body in the bus wanted to eat me raw and those who could not talk looked at me such look that sends shivers down your spines, trust me, I told them that I even like argue more when every other person partaking in the argument is against me provided I can prove my points. The unfortunate part of the scenario was that the people who were supporting along ethnic line did not do so because of any tangible reason, the people who were supporting their tribal man did so because he is from their region; imaging, one of them even said that even if the person is a thief so far he is from their tribe he will vote him. The whole saga tells one how far the country is from development when sentiments along ethnic, tribal and religious chauvinism has beclouded our sense of sound reasoning and judgement. My prayer is that the right person despite his/her tribe, ethnic group, clan or creed will emerge as the president of this country.
